August Challenge

At work I have started a challenge to walk 70,000 steps per week in the month of August. There is a few of us taken up the challenge.
Maybe some of you could motivate your own staff to also do something similar

The challenge is to complete 70,000 steps each week for the month of August. This is 10,000 steps per day. Your goal is to get to 10,000 steps each day or make up the shortfall on another day but complete 70,000 steps for each week of August

All you need is a pedometer or fitbit to record your steps for the day from the time you get up till the end of your day.

This is how it will work in our workplace……
The challenge starts on the 1st of August and ends on 28th of August.

Week 1, 1st – 7th
Email your total after the 7th

Week 2, 8th – 14th
Email your total after the 14th

Week 3, 15th – 21st
Email your total after the 21st

Week 4, 22nd – 28th
Email your total after the 28th

It doesn’t matter how you achieve your steps – running or walking, the main thing is to reach the goal of 70,000 steps per week of August.

I plan to publish each week our progress on our work noticeboard. Alias or fun nicknames encouraged!

Give it a go! Get it going in your workplace too........

Awesome ! I have just got one of those FITBIT trackers and they are amazing. Probably the best pedometer I have seen .www.Fitbit.com.

Hope some others join you on your challenge?

KahuNZ - What an inspiration you are! I did it for a week, few weeks back.(10,000 steps pr. day) It certainly got my ' walking legs' going. I usually start walking quite keenly but by the time I reach 4-5km I am looking for an excuse to come home. Will give it a go. (will make me get out of bed earlier!) Have Tai Chi on a Wednesday, but maybe I can do a bit of walking after that. But certainly other days would be great. Am trying to do the challenge of NZ but have slowed up considerably. Am at Picton/Blenheim by look of the map (.Just click on the names in red & that shows the 'ones' who are doing the challenge!)

Thanks again!!!!!
Annette

Thanks Annette
Hope it goes well for you and it will give you a few more km's for the walk of NZ. I am nearly in Wellington
PS I don't see any names in red to show who is doing the challenge?

Hi - have a look at your name above KahuNZ next to your posting "since Mar.2012 Posts 10"
Your name is highlighted in red or pink. Most people post, who are doing the challenge, but then I find that some who are busy walking/running marathons, working etc. sometimes have started the challenge, but are too busy to post! Good on them.
I did do 11.48 km (16410 steps) today but yesterday I found my pedometer wouldn't fit on my slacks with my belt, when I did Tai Chi so took it off. SO have to do roughly 9km (14000 steps tomoro to make up!! Good walk today tho, & so pleased I had done the 11km walking round Lagoon etc & along the beach - couldn't wait to enter on my Walk Diary. Still only 6.9km average. Hope that will change in doing the longer kms.

A girlfriend of mine who used to walk a lot, also participated in a challenge at her workplace in Wgtn. last year I think it was. She only entered the kms she walked outside & didn't put it on all day so her total was considerably less than anybody else that had it on all day.

I think to do the NZ challenge I would prefer to do the 'actual' walking outside. I did bike a lot last year & didn't enter that towards the challenge

But doing what you are aiming for your workmates to do I believe is awesome, & hope other people will rise to the challenge too & to keep moving!
Cheers
Annette

Well that was the plan anyway!
Also just posted a paragraph but forgot to click on 'post reply' & clicked on the back arrow instead (meaning 'send'!!) - how many of us have done that!
Had to go into Wgtn.Hospital today, & hubby went in ambulance. Has had flu injection too but had a 2nd bout last Wed. He has low blood pressure anyway, but this had dropped even further & had severe chills. Also we thought he had pulled a calf muscle or pulled a blood vessel, so couldn't walk. Luckily after numerous tests in Wgtn.Hospital (been there all day today), they got his blood pressure up, plenty of anibiotics, & can treat the infection he has obtained from his leg. Left him in more than happier spirits tonight. Will go in by train & bus tomorrow (free on Senior gold card) but eldest son & daughter-in-law from Wanganui, are picking me up on Sunday and going in. So will be great. Probably I won't get back to walking until late next week.
Good walking everybody.

Just checked out Fitbit.com thanks to this page ... Those gadgets look great. More reading to do but looks like good site ... Not as good as Wonder Walkers though .... :)

Over 5 Million steps between us for the challenge. Quite impressive. We had 16 people doing the challenge and even though some did not make the 70,000 each week everyone gave it a good go and were inspired to keep walking.
