OUR BLOG: Guest blog from wonderwalker Tanja

Hi there, Wonder Walkers, and welcome to my first guest blog post EVER!

If you post on the WW forums, you’ll know me there as Starfire. If you don’t, I’ve been a Wonder Walkers member since... wow… 2009.

In that time, Wonder Walkers has been invaluable as I’ve – let’s be honest – gone a little bit walking-crazy. I’ve walked 10ks and half-marathons… I even did the Oxfam Trailwalker 100km earlier this year. And now I’m training for another Trailwalker. Like I said: crazy!

OK, but what’s this blog all about?
The great thing about walking is that you don’t have to go crazy. Most people don’t. And whether you’re training for a big event, or just trying to get a little more activity into your week, there are some things about walking it can be really helpful to know. Things like:

* How to find the time
* What to wear
* How to stay motivated
* What to eat and drink
* How to avoid injuries

And there’s probably lots more. It’s all stuff I had to figure out for myself as I trained, and that’s where the idea for this blog came from... Read the full text of this blog entry.

I should have written this on my first post ... was thinking that the different subjects e.g. diet or anything about food, differing ideas about training [ how many hours etc], motivation issues could have separate enteries then people arent having to go through pages looking for information that they arent interested in. Just a thought ...

Hi there

I have registered for the Oxfam challenge 2012 - our team is called Magic Mamas and we are four mums aged between 30 and almost 45 (me) - and my motivation comes from having done two marathons when I was turning 40 to overcome my demons and fear of turning 40 (My Mum died of the big C when she was 40)..and here I am nearly 5 years later, happy, content and joyful with all that life has to offer. Having a daily walk gives me natural endorphins and allows me to cope with all that life throws me. I know the Oxfam will be a big journey and lots to do before then in terms of big distances, but I am ready - I would love to meet a walker who lives in Torbay for early morning walks (Have posted a blog ages ago but no replies) -

Hi arda - I definitely know what you mean about the endorphins from the daily walk!

The best place to post a request for a walking buddy is usually over on the Walking Buddy forum thread, but I can see you've already done that. Maybe you could also try contacting local gyms to see if they have any walking groups, or see if there are any other marathon walkers in your area?

Good luck - look forward to hearing about your training: Trailwalker is an AMAZING experience, and I'm really looking forward to doing it again :-)
