THANK YOU!

Thanks for the inspiration to finally get walking - and to enjoy it.

I have sat at my computer in my home based office for nearly twenty years now and finally, a couple of months ago I put down my mouse for an hour and went for walk in the middle of my working day. That day my walk was different from any other walk I had had for years.. I had taken time for myself to walk for pleasure, not just to cram in a dash of irregular exercise. For the first time ever, I took my new ipod and listened to 'my' music as I strode along. Suddenly I realised that I had stopped focussing on the pains in my feet and calves. No longer did I just want to get the exercise over with and get back to work. I was really enjoying myself.

Next day I bought myself my first pair of proper walking shoes and tried them out that afternoon. I had no idea what a difference proper shoes would make. It wasn't just that I wasn't noticing the pain in my feet and calves, it had disappeared. Suddenly, I felt like a machine!

My next discovery was www.gmap-pedometer.com. Magic! All of a sudden I could find out exactly how far I was walking. I could map my routes in advance and look at the terrain and satellite pictures of where I was going. Every day I take a new route and have finally discovered the neighbourhood that I have been living in for thirty years!

I have now been walking between eight and ten kms almost every day (unless it rains) for over two months and I just love it. I feel so much more alive. It's not just the physical benefits (sorely needed unfortunately). I had needed to get out, Sometimes I see the same people on my walks and it's lovely to recognise them and just to have them smile and say hello as we pass each other. Walking has made me feel part of the world again and this website has definitely helped make it happen.

Thank you.

And Dear Wice....Thankyou!.

A very very genuine THANKYOU from Susan and I for your comments which have been the winter fillip needed to fuel our motivation. What a wonderful story to read and to think that maybe we are able to help, in some small way, to get women out into and enjoying the great beyond!

WONDER WALKERS had its birthday recently and we are now 2!As we have often said we have learned a HUGE amount and often laugh or cringe at the faux pas made along the way.But we still have the faith in the concept and I am lucky to be joined in this venture by an amazing woman.Susan is currently enjoying(I hope) a holiday with the family...I hope she's finding some" me" time cos she never stops doing 4 others!

Thanks Wice again, for taking the time to say thanks.....THANKS to you and to all of you who feel like a part of a big family.......jjust wait till we can get our first WW event organised!

Genuine thanks,

Paula.

Hi and welcome to Wonder Walkers Wice! That's great news and really great that you came in to share that. You'll find it a friendly and caring place to be part of.

I relate to what you say about meeting people on your walks - I often see a couple either walking or striding or running to their bus stop in the mornings - can always tell if they're in a hurry or not and then further along the road a lady whose husband waves at the window every morning as she crosses the road - quite sweet! I even recognise she wears the same perfume every day as we pass by saying good morning. Another person who walks with head down, never wanting to say hello and another who runs huge runs - can set my clock by her! It's good to be part of.

I used to meet a man who had an elderly dog and we'd stop and our dogs would sniff their greetings .. inevitably I met the man one day so sad without his dog, who had passed on ... it's like 'Walking - Days of our Lives'!

Well on that note, I'll say bye and hope to chat again some time.

Paula, lovely to see you there too. I agree, I hope Susan is having a great break with her boys.

Have a great weekend.

You always feel really guilty when you are sitting in 30 degrees, kids swimming in pool between scouring the markets for bargainsand everyone else is freezing their butts off at home, but I have to admit that family holidays are awesome and important before we know it they will have fled the nest and then what will John and I do.
Walking isn't so great a bit dirty and crowded even the beach but have still got out because there are certainly no excuses. i agree with Paula re her comments from Wice..it is what this is all about and just how our kids stay in touhc via Facebook I check in ot see what all the lovelies are up to. You ladies are real gems wish i could transport you all to this little piece of paradise.
And Paula I am impressed like Elaine lovely to see you here !.

Thanks Wice some of us have been a part of Wonderwalkers for a while now and it's like a flash back hearing your comments. Welcome and keep it up. Walking is so good for the soul. Like you I have just discovered Ipods, I have loaded music from my youth, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Joan Jett, Sweet...and more and I sooooo have to resist breaking into song as I stride it out on my way to work. It's cool. Elaine I like that..."Walking Days of our lives." the same thing happens in my neighbourhood too. Every year on the 1st of Jan you see all these newbies starting their resolutions and so few keep it up so it's cool to say hi to the same people every day sometimes year after year.
Susan don't feel guilty..enjoy the break and the warmth...Chch is looking at minus 4 tonight and Central Otago even colder. You are in the best place right now.
With frost on the menu tonight and recent rain I'm on the treadmill ion the morning. Too dangerous with black ice about. Hope you all enjoy the weekend and the sun shines where ever you live
