WALK: Wairere Falls

20 minute drive south of Te Aroha. From the car park at Goodwin Rd the picturesque track features mossy green boulders and bridged mountain stream crossings. Walk 45 minutes to the viewing platform and see the spectacular 153m, two stage drop. The track continues another 45 minutes up to a lookout platform at the top of the falls. There is a magnificent view looking back over the valley and the Waikato Plains. View Walk Details.

This walk is really handy to where i live so we have been doing it quite often lately. Up to the lookout is a hard walk and then from there up to the top there is about 20min of extremely hard walking and then at the top you get to walk through beautiful bush on flatish paths for about 6 mins till you get to the top lookout. Would love to know though, once at the top can we go right and if so how far up there does it go?

Hi - I have checked out the track at the top of Waiere Falls - it is the called the North South Track and follows along the top coming towards Te Aroha and eventually meets up with Thompsons Track coming out at Shaftsbury Rd, near Te Aroha.

Hi again - have done a bit more research into the tracks.

Its about 1 1/2 hours to the top of Waiere Falls, another 20mins to the junction of the North South Track from there it is about 2 hrs 45 mins to the Te Tuhi Track and another 1 1/2 hours down and through some farmland to a car park. You will need a car at that end. A friend recently did the round trip in about 5 hours.

cheers Suzy

Hi - It should all be very well marked - they are Doc Tracks and recently had the walking festival in the area which used this track as one of their featured walks.

The best bet is to go to either the Matamata or Te Aroha I site and get a local map of the tracks they are easy to follow and the staff have good knowledge in the area.

The maps cost about $2. Michelle at the Te Aroha I Site walks those tracks on a regular basis and she would be very helpful even if you gave her a ring. 07 8848052

Good luck
