WALK - Catlins 15km River Walk

This is a lovely walk through the Beech Forest (even the river is brown) - follows the river through beautiful beech forest . Good defined track. 7 of us did this walk March 2007. Good weather. Track crosses the river in several places on well built swingbridges (with sides to hold onto and "steps' on the bridge. ) Took us 5-6hrs. (We had a diabetic with us, so went slow with rests). Took lunch. I wasn't into tramping but wore my walking/sneaker shoes 3/4 cotton trousers, and my merino jacket with T-shirt underneath. Felt quite comfortable. We were dropped inland by car by our husbands, then they met us at the end after we had walked through. One can start at the end and go 1/2way and then return. There are several walks from the top - To Wallis stream - 1hr. To Franks Stream 2hrs 40mins. and I believe we were on the Tawanui Track - End 5hrs. We had just cycled the Otago Rail Trail over 4 days and had then booked a cottage at Tautuku Outdoor Education Centre for 4 days.
