WALK: Waitakere Tramline Walk

After reaching the dam via the Waitakere Dam Walk, this track begins at the base of the dam and follows the tram and pipeline to the West Tunnel Track, which in turn joins the Anderson Track leading back to Scenic Drive. It is a 15 min walk back to the carpark. The tramline track follows a ledge with views across the Waitakere valley. The short tramline tunnel is an added attraction.(no torch necessary).

At Picnic Flats station there is a shelter, with a small grass clearing and picnic table. View Walk Details.

The Watakere Dam Tramline is also the present southern boundary of Arc in the Park, so look out for black robin, white head and hihi (stitchbirds) recently introduced near the Caskades. Although not frequenly, all three species have been seen up on the tramline.

I have just walked this track from Falls Rd, of Te Henga Rd. We went along auckland walk, to anderson track then waitakere tram line , waitakere dam then back along the fernline track back to the Cascades at Falls Rd. There were some quite steep steps, and some patches slippery, had to cross a small stream stepping over rocks. It took us about 2 1/2 hours. It was a lovely walk
