Hi girls. Welcome to the new girls, Lovely to hear from you. Gosh aren't we doing well. Love the sound of your baking Lois, can almost taste it . Unfortunately at present I consider everything that isn't on my diet list as poison and it seems to be keeping me on track . Have lost 4kg in the last four weeks so am on a roll. My sister has a treadmill so we are using that a lot, it's great.. I do an hour most days. Well corro is about to start so had better get comfy. Keep warm everyone. Sounds like we might get snow tonight, can't wait. Hope it buckets down. Haven't had a good snow for a few years.Love it

Morning, yes well there is definately some snow on them hills, but the sun is trying to pop out, looking at the map good old Nelson seems to have the best of it - no complaints from me. Mind you I am off to Wanganui for the weekend, hopefully the blustery wind will have died down for the flights. Not that I am flying into Wanganui - unbelievable flights from Nelson Wanganui return over $600.00, you can go to LA and freturn for $899.00, how bad is that!! So off to Palmerston North some $300 cheaper!!! Girlfriend has told me to pack the walking shoes - so that is great, as we will be spending it eating, drinking and laughing our way, so a few walks will definately be required.
Good on you foxylady 4kg in four weeks!! me I lost all of 100gms in 4 weeks, but did lose 350g of fat, so that wasn't quite so bad - something to do with the food intact one thinks!! - and now it is colder the old comfort food is sooooo nice.
have a great weekend everyone - take care.....

Hi there,
I am also trying to lose weight but not doing too well since this cold wet weather although today is good nice blue skies but cold but its so hard to get motivated when its so nice and warm and snuggly at home . I am trying to keep going but its a bit sporadic at the moment and with only 10 weeks to go till I go back to the uk for a visit (their summer!) I need to try and concentrate all effort on exercise and not scoffing the nice comfort food which always tastes so much nicer than that food which is good for you! Anyway not at work tomorrow so hopefully will get a walk or bike ride in first thing in the morning prior to a day oout in Queenstown or Wanaka tomorrow with a friend

Hi there, Many of us are always trying to lose a little or a lot. Strangely enough I seem to have more success if I don't focus on it.One of our sons is doing one of those cadbury fundraisers where you have to sell chocolate..we haven't sold many but we have eaten a lot.And yes it's suddenly winter and much harder to get the enthusiasm to get outside but we can motivate each other.I have so much admiration for the women on the website who without knowing each other offer support in many different ways because the truth is we all have so many different things going on in our lives.I am feeling a bit flat at the mo,my personality is like a roller coaster (imagine having to live with that) I go and go and go and then bang I crash and burn, but it is amazing how my moods are affected if I don't get out and get those natural endorphins going.Have been reading all the horror stories in the Herald about "P" as a parent of four boys 11,13,14 and 15 drugs are probably one of my biggest concerns and we are right in the eye of the storm in the parenting challenges..no wonder I feel exhausted I am so busy keeping them busy.Any way enough from me enjoy the beautiful Central Otago..some gorgeous walks around Arrowtown.

Hi all!!! Great to see many of us still walking the walk even though the weather's not that good. Well I am quite envious of my sister today as she is in Sydney, she txt me that it was a lovely day and 18 degrees. It was bitterly cold here in Christchurch today. Thank goodness for the treadmill. You are right Susan when you say sometimes it's better not to focus too much on dieting. I have put myself on a low fat diet as I had a gall bladder attack on Anzac day so am not too keen to eat anything that might trigger another one.A bit scared to really. Also the blood pressure was pretty high so consider the whole episode a wake up call. A good boot up the bum really. I hope none of you ever have to go through the hell of having a P addict in your lives. My daughter came down from Auckland 20 months ago and she had been using P for the two years she was up there. She has been clean since she has been here and did a lot of her recovery on her own as by the time she could get into rehab she had gone through the worst of it herself, with support from us. She is back working now but still has issues that will probably be there for the rest of her life.I am really proud of her. She still has a long way to go but.she is still going and we are really lucky to have her with us. Take care everyone. Keep warm

Hi all,
Back from Wanganui, was pretty miserable weather, so wasn't the best for walking, spent most of the time in the warm by the fire watching DVD's, also playing tennis on the Wii - got to love that game. Managed one wander but nothing much at all. I think 'P' has to be on of the most awful drugs of our time, I have seen the devastation this causes, well done foxylady to your daughter, and my thoughts go out to you with all the demons you will have battled through this as well. You may notice I am doing this at an insane hour - can't sleep with the most terrible pain under in my right foot - it started a couple of days ago, walking along and a sharp pain sort of at the bunion point on my right foot. Didn't take much notice of it just a bit annoying, and then tonight it is swollen red and painful - so I thought - oh my "G" I have gout!!!, but I am not so sure (A bit of self diagnosis going on here), anyway got sick of tossing and turning so have got up for a bit, looks like a trip to the Dr is on the line!!.
Oh - the best news - I have found a job!!!! really really pleased and is in Richmond so a comute is required but no major move so I am rapt....... will let you know the outcome of the foot problem!! take care all.

Hi all,
Thanks Foxylady, like you not much walking, my foot not so bad but on strong voltarin, had some bloods done, could be gout but Dr doesn't think so, it is an acute joint inflamation and could be arthritis, or infection so keeping a close eye on it, at least I slept last night, still hobbling and sore but at least bearable. Can't believe my last few days of freedom and I am not out enjoying it!!. Spent the morning filling in forms for new job, doing a handover plan for the last bits of contract work I have been doing etc. Next job is tidying up all my accounts, paying GST etc., never ends really!!!.
Hope those of you that have two legs, knees, and feet that actually work, have been out there doing something!!!!! - take care.

Hi Fergiegal, welcome to the site, and I hope you ejoy it. Yes definately a bit colder, expecting it to be colder again tomorrow. Today we have a light cloud cover but no wind, the sea is beautiful, but the washing is hanging on the line not doing much at all. Having friends around for lunch tomorrow, so decided to organise myself today, mushroom and blue cheese soup has been made, pear and gingerbread pudding done, and a chocolate cake made. So I just have to organise the main in the morning, do the housework etc., no point doing it this morning before I started baking. My feet are on the mend so hopefully will be back to the walking etc this week. Take care all.......

Welcome fergiegal great to hear from you. What a good way to do your walk while the boys are sleeping, hope you got to do a road walk as well. Lois it's lovely to hear your feet are on the mend and you'll be back into it again. Have been back on the tread mill and need to get stuck in again. Have been having little treats while my sister has been away. Can't be trusted on my own I think. The day has been lovely here today. Went shopping with my daughter, new I didn't want to go to the malls today. Don't do crowds very well and am over it pretty quickly. We had fun though . Keep warm

Hi all,
Have been remiss in linking into the site, sorry ... but have had a bit of brain mush having started a new job this week, have a couple of hours commute as well, so not quite into the routine of walking and checking in on you wonderful WW woman. Not all bad though doing the stairs at work and the office is over two floors so up and down quite a lot during the day and make sure I park a wee way away, so all helps until I get sorted. Wouldn't have been able to walk first thing over the last few days, really really big frosts, and I live where there isn't really any street lighting and ice covered roads, so unless I was wearing skis or ice skates!!! I even had a sideways moment in the car!!! not nice at all.
It has been glorious during the day - and I haven't been able to just pop out and enjoy it now I am not contract working from home!! such sacrifices we all make!!

Well, I haven't had a response to my post asking for a Dunedin walking buddy but - nothing daunted - I went on a "march" today. Got up at 6.15am, got organised, got my mini back-pack sorted, and hitched a lift from a neighbour to the outskirts of town. This was at 7.20am. It was still dark, very cold, and pouring with rain. I walked briskly for almost half an hour. Then caught a bus back - but had to walk for 15 minutes up the steep hill to home. I was drenched. BUT arrived home feeling GREAT. I have had so much energy all day I've been literally bouncing around the place and eaten less than half of what I would usually.

Hi Loudee, well done you, fantastic, and a lesson to us all, including me!!!!
It certainly does make a difference, and as we all say we can never figure out why it seems to be such an effort to do it, and yet we gain so much and always feel so great when we finish - I never have the same angst when looking at a cake of chocolate!!!
Hope you are all having a great weekend, gloriously sunny again, and not too bad a frost. Have managed to get the car washed this morning, so that is a good job done.
Cheer to you all

Hi Loudee, thats sounds manic to me! I struggle as I walk on my own mostly and its a lot harder to get the incentive to actually do it. I'm not too bad at the weekends but during the week its hard to get going. did a very nice wlk down between Alexandra and Clyde last Friday with a friend (didn't do all of it ) but I've lived here for 4 years and that was the first time I've been there. Also for anyone doing a visit to Queenstown they are having 5km and 10km fun runs on certain Saturdays at jacks point see active qt website (or something like that) for details. Anyway better keep on I might actually go for a walk after work today after having a quick look on here.
Take care everyone

Hi there,
just discovered wonderwalkers...what a cool site!A girlfriend and I have been walking 2-4 times a week for the past few months with the goal of doing the Buller half marathon next Feb (starting early, was pretty unfit!!). Have got well and truly addicted to it for sure! I have 4 kids (all boys) and going for a walk and a natter is the best form of therapy I could have found, plus getting fitter and more energetic. It can be hard trying to fit in walks as my youngest is 4 and not keen on sitting in a pram, but he has just started morning kindy, so I am going to plug in the mp3 player, wrap up warm, and get walking while he's there! We live in the middle of nowhere...about half way between Westport and Karamea on the West Coast, so the scenery is brilliant for walking, if a bit soggy at times. No problems with dodging traffic here; just lots of cows and the odd weka and pukeko.
Anyway hi to all,
I'm rapt to have found Wonderwalkers

Hi Miranda,
Glad you've joined us - I was pleased to finfdthe site as well just to find people to give me inspiration. I seem to struggle with walking in the winter - I want to be fit and healthy but the mind is weak especially when its yuk outside its soo much easier to sit inside and read a book. I haven't any kids so it should be so easy for me to go out and do it but it doesn't seem to be so I so admire you lot that have so many commitments and still get out there. keep it up so you inspire me and hopefully I will be able to get out for a walk today as I am finishing work early (but I have got to come to work tomorrow afternoon!)
