Hi all. Got a day off today. Am working six day weeks at present, plus doing the kilometers for the city to surf, so haven't been on computer for awhile. Hope everyone is well and getting out there. Missed my walk the other night when the southerly blast came through. It went summer to winter in a minute. Did an hour on the treadmill instead.I have a weeks holiday in two weeks so am really looking forward to some r& r. Then with Easter will get a few days off then. Going to Dunedin for a family reunion. It will be great catching up with family we haven't seen for awhile and not catching up at a funeral which seems to be the way it has been. Well am going to have coffee and head off for a 10k walk. Am feeling quite tired and would rather be going back to bed. May blob out later I think. Take care everyone

Hi all
No have not disappeared overseas, mine you the week that I've had it sure sounds like a good option. I would love to disappear for a while and let someone else take responsibility for running the house for a while. I've just finished my second week at uni and the work load has gone mad. Because only go to lectures 3days a week for about 3hrs at a time, everyone seems to think that i have it really easy, but they don't take into account that for each of my 3 papers there are a minimum of 6hrs extra work required outside of the lecture time. So for me this week walking has taken a bit a back seat, any spare time that I get is spent sleeping. The last few days i've been surviving on about 6hrs sleep per night, and the body has been running on auto pilot. The weather here on aucklands north shore has turned to crap this afternoon, so I'm going to make the most of a quiet house (well at least till 3pm) and put my feet up and chill for a while. I'm sure that after a good nights sleep things won't seem so full on, and I will be able to reorganise things to lighten my load a little and factor in that so important me time when hopefully I will manage to get out for a walk.

Hi all
Well, my husband completed the Karapoti MTB race last weekend, so now it's my turn to train. Was heading out yesterday for a walk and saw a friend who asked if my husband is being supportive, and then commented that he's probably just happy to get me out of the house for those hours. Nice guy, no tact!!! lol). Walked 25k, which went pretty well, considering I hadn't been for a decent walk in a couple of weeks prior to that (not even a half decent one to be honest). There's the International 2 Day walk here in Rotorua next weekend, so that will be great - take myself along and do a walk each day. Was thinking of doing a 21 on Saturday and then a 20 on the Sunday, but wonder if I should do a 10 on Sat, and 30 on Sun - would prefer to do the 30 on Sat, but that's not an option. Any advice? (Training to walk the Rotorua Marathon on 2 may - 7 short weeks away.)

Hi all,
Gosh bigK's, trouble is the time it takes that is for sure. Reason I think I jog as well as walk, I tend to walk one way and jog back, so doesn't take quite as long, but if you have the time fantastic idea. No advice on how much each day, no idea, personally I would probably try and do similar both days. I was out this morning and thought that it was about time I started walking back in the Abel Tasman, most of the summer visitors and tourists have departed so the track will be quieter, might just have to go in this week I think. Stunning day today no wind, no clouds beautiful, off out to a Bar-B-Que lunch, and then out with friends for Thai this evening, so got out and walked for an hour, and did some small weights when I got back, - at least trying to have some balance in the day. Bye for now.

Hi all
Wow reading over what i wrote on here last friday i must have been in a really bad head space. I've had a chance to chill over the weekend and managed to catch up on some sleep and even managed to get my partner and kids on side to help a bit more around the place. I've put my semester plan for uni up on the wall, which shows when all my classes are and assignments are due, and have also blocked off times when I need to be doing the extra study. This seems to have done the trick for all concerned,so will keep my fingers crossed that it continues. It's made a huge difference in such a short space of time, all the uni work is now under control and I even managed to get out for a walk this morning and feel so much better for doing so. Hope you all have a great week!!!!

Well done you, not only are you a wonder walker but a wonder woman as well, trying to juggle everything and take time for yourself - is not easy - keep up the work with the family, and hopefully it will all stay in some sort of balance.
No walk for me this morning, my knee was playing up at the end of yesterday so giving it a day off today, walk time will be used to make some blackboy peach jam instead!! - so at least will achieve something.
Another glorious sunny day here, and I am going to slave over a stove!! something wrong with that picture !!!! - have a great day everyone.

Hello
Just joined up and wanted to say hi. I have been doing quite a bit of walking lately. Just did Round the Bays in Auckland with mum for fun. Mostly I walk alone about 4 or 5 times a week for about 45mins. The route I have has 4 good hills and I have worked up to quite a good pace. I love listening to my son's music when I work out. It is rebellious and really motivating, a good destresser!!

Well nikiw the only advice I have is not to over do it..better to do a long one then have a rest day,the easy/ hard routine gives your body time to recover.Sounds like you are getting in the long ones and that's what's really important.I would be keen to join you one weekend for a long one if it was possible.I desperately need to do the big distances but like you time is a big factor.
I did the Round the Bays in the weekend. Westpac staff took 250 people with disabilities on the run/walk and treated them to some really good hospitality. They did it as part of their sponsorship of the Halberg Trust and I was really impressed.Lots of people with disabilities especially intellectual just don't get the opportunity to have some real fun and some real action so hats off to Westpac. It is a bit claustrophobic tho but I chuckled when I read in the Herald the next day that the winner was Sarah Devoy in a time of 31 mins...(my niece of course.)

Hi all
So far so good the new system is all going well and everyone seems to be pitching in, making my life so much easier!!!! The weather here in Auckland is wonderful today, bugger I couldn''t make it out for a walk on the beach. My partners teenage son has just moved in with us, and I'm still getting used to how much food he eats. So I had to miss the walk today and go do a huge food shop. So keeping my fingers crossed for some more good weather tomorrow afternoon, when I'll be able to go for a nice long walk along takapuna beach.
Thanks for your words of encourgement Lois, you always seem to have something positive to say!!! Hope your knee is feeling better, and the jam sounds really yummy!!!

Hi all. This morning I have had the biggest surprise in all my 55 years. My sister had quite some time ago asked if I could get this morning off work and couldn't tell me what for as it was a surprise. Well we had to be at this place at 8.30 this morning and was totally stunned when I found that my younger daughter had been training secretly and was doing the real womens duathlon. This is someone who hates exercise so it was all the more special. It appears that we are all doing it next year but thought we might go to Queenstown for it. Haven't been out much this week but have done some treadmill. Will do the city to surf ok so not too worried. Well off to get my daughter a bottle of merlot and one for my other daughter who trained her. keep going girls

Hi all,
Had to laugh funckychick with the big food shop! - one of my close friends has an 18 year old who is a very good rugby player and on track for greatness (or so he says), but the amount of food he consumes with all his training is unbelievable, he has moved out at long last and Lyn tells me her grocery bill is 1/3rd of what it was!!!! The Jam was great, have made peach and chilli chutney and peach cheese since then!!!, when the fruit is free can't waste it. Friend walked top of the Abel Tasman yesterday, Mutton Cover, Totaranui etc., and was the most perfect day with not a drop of wind all day - shame I couldn't have joined them, but is pushing me to get back into the park that is for sure. A Quote for the week ladies:
"I have never in my life learned anything from any man who agreed with me" (Dudley Field Malone)......... keep up the walking. Lois

I got off my butt today! :-) Totara Park, Manukau. Big bush track and little bush track. Was great! I actually managed to run/jog it. Very proud of myself even though at the end I felt I could have gone harder- need someone to run with me to push harder.
I have been walking an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening most days. We got a new 3yr old dog about a month ago, she keeps me motivated- if I didn't walk her she would dig, bark, try to get out, pull the washing off the line but instead she just lays around and waits for her next walk. Best decision ever! to get her. I wanted to for a lifestyle change- I decided I was finally ready to get of my wobbly butt and do something about it and I want my children to grow up with a dog- as I did.
See you here tomorrow :-)

Well done Suz, yes a dog is a big motivator, I lost mine about 8 years ago, and haven't replaced, just don't have the right property etc., but they are a great motivator. I have just been out for an hours walk, no jogging today, but the walk was great.

Me again, HELLO!
I did the same walk (jog/run) today at approx. 6pm with the dog while my partner and two little kids sat at the park/play area eating fish'n'chips! lol Meanies.
As I started I felt as though I was going to have problems with my right leg- like if I started to run that it could be a problem. I felt that I wanted to turn around and go hang out with the kids. After a little think I realised it was possibly that I had so much flying through my head and that the ride in the car with everyone (normally quiet with just me and the dog) was a little loud and far from relaxing. To check if it was I slowed down and started to stare up into the tress and only think about where I was. IT WORKED! I was so amazed- what the simple dramas in life can do to your head. The feeling of 'I wana give up' and the sore leg (hahaha) went away- completely- within minutes me and the dog were running through the trees and I didn't once think of giving up or the family waiting for me in the park until I came around the corner and saw the play area. The stress almost all came back to me when I saw he hadn't even let them out of the car- they were in their carseats eating fish'n'chips! Ggrrrrrrr. I did :-) 'Mum's time' was great today.

Wholly molly you'll never guess whats happened now!!!! After watching the duathlon the other day and saying we might do it next year, I came home the other night and my crazy sister had found a couple of bikes on trade me for me to look at and also one she thought she might like. The outcome being that now we have a bike each so it looks like we will be out there doing it. Had my first ride tonight and was a bit wobbly so there lots of room for improvement. We're all set for the walk on Sunday, getting quite excited now. Great to see we're all out there doing it. Keep up the good work!

Hi, well I have found myself a dog for the weekend - but seriously i am dog sitting for the weekend, a 15 mth spoodle - jet black - she is absolutely gorgeus but doesn't sit down for long. We went for a 6klm walk this morning, of which she decided 3klm was far enough and sat down, but we got there, then this afternoon had to go check the letter box for her owners so we had another 2klm walk, and yes she is still running around - boy it is a long time since I had a young dog!!!. Also decided to join Curves today - Not doing enough resistance so have decided that this would be a good thing, while I still haven't found work I want to try and stay postiive and motivated, so had my first session on the machines today. Only trouble is I am 6ft tall and a couple of machines are not quite at the right height but all in all was good. Looking forward to an evening with the dog!!, then we will be out and about first thing in the morning.!! - Have a great weekend all you WW women, and of course the men that are around!!...

Hello!
I'm suprised at the lack of posts on 'Wonder Walkers' Forum :-( I joined up expecting to see alot more- why do people not use it to their advantage and make the most of it. Too busy I guess or too many excuses not to keep up the walking. I used to use the same excuses as everyone else and then I found a way. Stop the excuses and just do it!. How many members are there on Wonder Walkers I wonder?
Sorry about the negative, this will be the last time. (this will seem a bit a pointless ramble but......) Life is too short to dwell on the 'can't' I grew up being told there was no such thing as can't and it worked until I 'grew up' and all of things that were so possible became so impossible. Why are adults so negative and children so positive- I believe we give our children the possibility and belief that they can make their dreams come true- tell them they should make the most of life then adults (us or someone else) stamp the belief/possibility out of their minds.
There is no such thing as 'Can't' ...... I still believe it.

Suz you are soo right. Sometimes as adults we tend to get a bit cautious and maybe think we shouldn't be doing things. There is no such thing as can't but somethings are a little beyond our capabilities but if we modify we can still achieve goals. I had always wanted to run a marathon but now I have had a hip replacement I am not supposed to run so have to date walked three half marathons and am hoping to add a fourth to it this year. Will see how the body reacts to the twelve k tomorrow. Also I think getting on the bike may be a good move. will try a duathlon and see how that goes.I am not ready to give up and I do like the challenge. so just go for it wonder women and keep up the good work
