Mines Walk

Location

The Maratoto and the Wentworth Valley are near Whangamata. The Maratoto tracks are accessible off Maratoto Rd and the Wentworth Valley tracks off Wentworth Valley Rd.

Description

The walk starts at the concrete ford and passes through regenerating forest along the base of a step hillside. There are two short mine shafts visible from the track (no public access) as well as mullock heaps taken from many mines in the area. The track drops back down to the stream opposite the picnic area. It is 30 minutes to picnic area.
