Tarawaere & Waterfalls Dams

Location
The Kauaeranga Valley is 13km to the east in behind the town of Thames.
Description

Tarawaere Dam
The track begins just past the Totara Flat campground. Cross the Kauaeranga River at the swing-bridge and follow Tarawaere Stream to the remains of a rafter flume dam, (on which the model dam near the visitor centre is based). Beyond Tarawaere Dam the track climbs a ridge before joining the Kauri Trail near the remains of the Long Trestle. Follow the trail back to the Kauaeranga River.

Waterfalls Dam
You will find the remains of this rafter dam with its swinging gate at the top of a steep track that branches off the Tarawaere Dam Track.
