Kaipawa Trig Track

Location
accessible from two locations; the summit of Whangapoua Road (SH 25) or opposite Tokatea Lookout on the summit of Kennedy Bay Road. (approximately 7kms north of Coromandel town centre).
Description

This tramping track meanders through regenerating forest to the trig. Return the way you came or continue on to the other access point·

  • Challenging day or multi-day tramping/hiking·
  • Track is mostly unformed with steep, rough or muddy sections·
  • Suitable for people with good fitness. Moderate to high level backcountry skills and experience, including navigation and survival skills required·
  • Track has markers, poles or rock cairns. Expect unbridged stream and river crossings·
  • Tramping/hiking boots required·

There are many old mine shafts in this area that are dangerously overgrown. Please keep to the track.
