Waitomo Walkway

- Starts at Waitomo Village, 16 km northwest (by road) of Te Kuiti.
- Description
The Waitomo Walkway traverses classic limestone landscape, meandering beside the Waitomo Stream through a mixture of shady forest and open farmland.The Walkway starts opposite the Museum of Caves and ends at Ruakuri Scenic Reserve. There are toilet and car parking facilities at both ends of the Walkway. The Ruakuri Scenic Reserve features the Ruakuri Walk, a 30-minute loop track that takes you to the spectacular Ruakuri Natural Tunnel. The Waitomo Walkway crosses Te Anga Rd, so it is possible to do part of the Walkway and then walk back to Waitomo Village along the road·
Easy to moderate walking from a few minutes to a day· Track is mostly well formed, some sections may be steep, rough or muddy·
Suitable for people with low to moderate fitness and abilities·
Clearly sign posted. Stream and river crossings are bridged·
Walking shoes or light tramping/hiking boots required.There are no places to stay in the reserve, but accommodation is available in the nearby village of Waitomo and the town of Te Kuiti.
