Humpridge Track

I have just had the most magnificent few days walking the Humpridge Track
About 30 of us (with the average age of most walking about 60 years old) undertook the track with great gusto. I have to admit i have walked the track before but nonetheless enjoyed it even more this time round probably because I knew what was in store.
The Humpridge is less well known than the other great NZ Walks but I would reccomend it to anyone who loves walking, the great outdoors and a little bit of fascinating Kiwi history.
Admittedly we took the easy way, only having to carry day packs as our bags were helicoptered into the huts each night and each night we were treated to meals fit for a king and a few wines to make sure we slept well.
The track was built to boost the local economy of Tuatapere. It is another example of true community spirit as the track is run and maintained by a charitable trust as opposed to many of the walks that are purely commercial ventures. Hence the hospitality is supreme starting from the first night in the local pub. Where else would you get whitebait fritters for breakfast.!
The first day is a bit of a slog, hiking up to Okaka Hut but everyone takes their own time and finds others of similar pace to chat with along the way.
It is always interesting to meet other people and I was amazed by the fitness of the group most of who are just regular walkers rather than hardened trampers.
I have put a few snaps in the photo gallery but if you are keen to find out more about this little piece of heaven then
check out.
