Forest & Bird Maungatautari Trip - 24 April 2010

Maungatautari Mountain, just south of Cambridge, is surrounded by a 42km predator fence. Catch a bus at 9am from "Out in the Styx", south of the mountain for a traverse of Maungatautari, which takes about 6 hours. A good level of fitness is required. Less strenuous walks are available at the southern enclosure. A visit to Jim Barnett Scenic Reserve and Lake Arapuni walkway are other options.

Plan to stay one or two nights and return to Auckland on Sunday. There’s a range of accommodation from bunks to double rooms. The cheapest is dinner, bed and breakfast for $85.00.
