Oxfam Trailwalker - 10 and 11 April 2010

Posted on November 15, 2009 at 01:44 PM

Challenge yourself and challenge poverty by entering the Oxfam Trailwalker event, April 10-11, 2010. Oxfam Trailwalker is the World’s Greatest Team Challenge; you and your team of four will complete 100km in 36 hours!

Trailwalker is Oxfam’s largest fundraising event. It is an annual fundraising event organised and promoted by Oxfam New Zealand. It’s a 100km walk (or run!) which must be done within 36 hours (or much less if you’re game!) and takes place on April 10th – 11th 2010 through some of central North Island’s most spectacular terrain.

Oxfam Trailwalker is all about teamwork – it is a great way for friends to bond or for work colleagues to develop team spirit. You need to start together, go through each checkpoint together, and finish together. You'll have to train and fundraise together beforehand.

Funds raised from the event will support Oxfam New Zealand's humanitarian, development and advocacy work to lift some of the world's poorest people out of poverty.

Oxfam Trailwalker is challenging – but you don't need to be a marathon runner or a professional athlete to do it. Whether you're a team of accountants, over 40 mums, gym buddies, university mates, with training and the right mental attitude, just about anyone can complete it. Trailwalker is not a relay – team members must start and finish together.

Oxfam Trailwalker teams are asked to raise a minimum of at least $2000 – this may seem daunting at first, but you will be assisted every step of the way. When you get into the swing of fundraising you will be surprised – last year Trailwalker teams raised an average of $3800!

That means people around New Zealand from all walks of life raised an incredible $1,146,033 towards Oxfam's vital work in alleviating poverty and demanding justice for the world's poorest communities.

What can you do?

Set up a team of four people with copious amounts of will power, great heart and a desire overcome poverty and injustice in some of the world’s poorest communities!

How do I enter Trailwalker?

It’s easy! Just register to reserve your team place for $25, then you’ve got 28 days to get your team together and pay the entry fee to confirm your team in the world’s greatest team challenge.

How much will it cost?

To reserve your team place is $25. The entry Fee for your team of four is $600. These fees do not count towards your fundraising commitment and are not tax deductable.

What does my entry fee cover?

The entry fee paid by each team is used to cover the costs of running the event. This includes paying for things such as portaloos, maps, checkpoints, safety equipment, event staff and more. Entry fees mean that the funds you work so hard to raise are actually going towards Oxfam’s work.

What if I’ve got a team and we’re ready to go?

Email info@joxfamktrail2walkejr.orgs.nzi now! This is the best way to skip the boring bits, they’ll give you a call and have your team sorted in no time.

Can we change our team name after we’ve registered?

Absolutely. Once your team is confirmed with four team members and entry fee payment, you will have access to edit your team details via your online Team page. Some teams even auction off their team name as a fundraiser.

Can we have more than 4 people per team?

Unfortunately, no. If you know a few keen walkers, encourage them to get another team together by advertising for team mates on the Lonely Boots page.

Are there any refunds?

Under some circumstances a team’s entry fee will be refunded as per the refunds policy.

Who can enter?

Anyone over 18 years old who wants to make a difference in the world, is most welcome to enter Trailwalker.

Each team is given their own web page to upload pics, profile your team, tell friends, family and colleagues about your training adventures, as well displaying your fundraising progress. Messages by your supporters can be posted on your site. It's a great way to engage people overseas and at home.
