Begin at the Selwyn Domain in Mission Bay. Head along the beach and cross the Millennium bridge. Walk along the waterfront, past Bastion Point to Hapimana Street. Follow the road up to the Savage Memorial. Conclude this walk by following the walking track back down the hill towards Mission Bay. A memorial to the first Labour Prime Minister of New Zealand and the founder of the welfare state, Michael Joseph Savage Memorial Park offers panoramic views over Whenua Rangatira, Auckland City and Waitemata Harbour. It is a popular wedding and tourist venue, favoured as a venue for flying a fabulous array of colourful and creative kites. There are formal gardens including a pond, and of the course, the grave and memorial to Michael Joseph Savage. Takaparawhau, also known as Whenua Rangatira, covers 49 hectares of harbour-edge land between Paritai Drive and Mission Bay, as well as the Okahu Bay Reserve and the land formerly known as Bastion Point.
