Walking the new sport in town.

One of the motivations for us to develop WW was that we thought walking was seen as the “poor cousin “of exercise.i.e. The thing to do if you can’t run!
We knew the benefits of walking as a regular low impact aerobic exercise (like reducing risk of heart disease and cancer, lowering cholesterol, lowering blood pressure, maintaining healthy bones and muscles, stabilising blood sugar, improving immunity and relieving stress And its CHEAP!!) but we thought its image hasn’t quite had the same “make up” that other forms of sport and exercise have.
WW wants to change that –one step at a time.

We want walking to be seen as the new sport in town. I walk therefore I am !

So here’s some WW tips on getting into the ‘Walking is my sport psyche”;

1.Have a walking bag.

This should contain your walking gear including a pedometer to measure the vital stats. Make sure you put it out each night before bed so it’s all set for the new day.Your walking sports gear should be practical and you need really good walking shoes.They are like a racquet is to a tennis player! But your gear should also be gear that makes you feel sporty and good (lime green shoes??) To feel sporty you need to think that you look sporty.Don’t forget to invest in some really comfy but sporty looking sox.

2.Set Goals.

Depending on your age,health,fitness levels you will feel a huge buzz if you set realistic goals and achieve them.WW has info on average regular walk info but remember that everyone is different and if you have some health issues always consult your medical advisor about your new sporting challenges.
Why not use the WW Walk Diary and map your progress on 1 or more of our walking
Challenges.

3.Choose walks that you like or think you’ll like.WW Walk Info provides you with some walks in your area but check out local Councils /local papers for others. One of the wonderful things about walking apart from all the physical and mental benefits is that you can actually take the time to saviour walking in and with nature!

4.Find a walking Sports buddy or 2 who will keep you motivated and vice versa. Walking is a fantastic Team Sport as well as an individual pursuit!

5.Plan in advance so your family knows of your ‘Sports time”

6.Think about entering an event if you haven’t ever done one or if you have choose some others. Look at WW General Events for ideas or our link to your local Regional Sports Trusts (RST’s)etc.You will feel a huge sense of pride and satisfaction from entering(and hopefully finishing)an event and you can have your own area in the home for your sports skite board with photo’s,certificates etc.

Most of all LOL.laugh out loud and enjoy.

Walking is coming to a Town near you!!!!!!!!
