Karaka Point

- Situated some eight kilometres by road east of Picton on the far side of Waikawa Bay. Refer map for full details of location.
- Description
- A short winding track takes you along the point to a grassed look out. Midway along the track you will see the ramparts and pits of what was a sizeable Maori settlement. It is not known what happened to the occupants but it is thought that they were eventually driven out by Te Rauparaha. Two access tracks lead down to the beach and at low tide it is possible to walk around the point.
