Sentinel Rock Walk
- Location
- A short distance south from the Franz Josef Township, turn left at the end of the Waiho River Bridge onto the Franz Josef Glacier Access Road and continue to the car park at the end of the road. The Glacier Road is not suitable for towing trailers or caravans.
- Description
- The walk begins at the end of the Glacier Road. The track climbs steadily through scrub forest and ferns. At the view point it opens out into bedrock with clumps of small rata and kamahi trees as well as the needle leaved grass tree (dracophylum), below a mantle of moss and lichen sprout on bed rock. There is a fantastic view of the glacier, Mount Roon (2233 metres) and Bismarck Peaks (2545 metres).
