Tatare Tunnels Walk

- The 80 minute return Tatare Tunnels walk starts at the northern end of Cowan Street in Franz Josef township
- Description
The walk begins gently along an old four-wheel drive road to a junction with the Callery/Waiho walk. From here it climbs gently for 20 minutes and drops to a view of the scenic Tatare Gorge and then it becomes steep and narrow up to the Tatare Tunnels. Glow-worms are visible in the tunnels at night.
If you plan to explore the old water tunnels you are advised to carry a torch, spare torch batteries, rain coat and water-proof footwear
