Wanganui Old Cemetery Heritage Trail

This Heritage Walk begins at the gateway by the parking area in Guyton Street.

Description

Commonly known as Heads Road Cemetery, this is one of the oldest European cemeteries in New Zealand. The first recorded burial here was in November 1843.

The Route starts at the gateway and heads down the right hand side towards the stone walls on the hillside, working towards the eastern end where most of the older graves are located, across Heads Road to the Catholic and Jewish sections and back to the carpark.
