Description

Hawera means “the burnt place” or “breath of fire” and takes its name from the old Maori village of Te Hawera, much of which was destroyed by fire.
The water tower was built in 1914 to provide a ready supply of water for fire fighting purposes. The 54 metre Hawera Water Tower is one of Taranaki's best known landmarks.

The tower is open daily 10am – 2pm (except Christmas Day) and the entry for the tower is $2.00 an adult, $1.00 Child or $5 a family/group.

Climb up for huge views of the green countryside. There are 215 steps up the tower.
