Bruce Park Loop Track
- Location
- From Bulls, continue north on State Highway 1 for about 30 km (or approximately 5 km south of Hunterville) and turn down Aldworth Road. Near the corner of State Highway 1 and Aldworth Road is a farm gate. Park here and cross the two stiles to follow the gravel track leading into the bush.
- Description
An easy walk through a podocarp and broadleaf forest remnant with impressive specimens of rimu, totara and kahikatea.
The walk follows a figure-eight formation ending where you start. It is suitable for a baby buggy if you are prepared to lift the buggy over the stiles and the dozen or so steps at the beginning of the track. From here on the walk is flat to undulating.
In the heart of the park you will find the memorial to Robert Cunningham Bruce, a conservationist who gifted the district several forest patches. A short side track here leads you to the old concrete gates that were once the original entrance to Bruce Park before the highway was realigned.- Level
