Location

Cascade Falls Carpark

From downtown Auckland allow 30 minutes travelling time. Take the north-western motorway to the Lincoln Rd off ramp.

Take this exit and follow Lincoln Rd along to the left. At the second set of traffic lights (next to Pak n Save) turn right into Universal Drive which becomes Swanson Rd.

Continue through Swanson, past the Redwood Drive Country Club on your right until you reach Scenic Drive.

Go along Scenic Drive, turn right into Te Henga Rd and then left into Falls Rd. Drive through the Waitakere Golf Club, past the clubhouse to the carpark.

Description

Not for the faint hearted, the trail is a four-hour tramp with some steep sections. See the largest remaining stand of mature kauri in the Auckland region. The area is home to Kauri snails, glowworms and native long-tailed bats. Enjoy a quiet time in ancient and regenerating forest, a hidden cascading waterfall, spectacular views, bountiful birdlife, some special picnic spots and interpretive panels for more information on the trail along the way.
