Dolbel Reserve
- Location
- The principal access points are off the end of Dolbel Street (which is off Puketapu Road) and Triggs Crescent, Taradale. There are sufficient car parking spaces close to both entrances.
- Description
This Reserve is named after brothers Philip and Richard Dolbel who came from Jersey to New Zealand in 1855. They ran a general store in Clive and had interests in a dairy company, limeworks and brickworks. The brothers bought Springfield Station (in Springfield Road) in 1865 and later Redclyffe Station. Both stations were farmed in partnership. The land they owned included the present Dolbel Reserve.
A network of walking tracks has been established and the park is now a popular walking spot. There are extensive views both east and west from the summit of the hill. The park is being developed with plantings of both exotic and native trees and shrubs on the lower slopes. The upper grass slopes are managed by grazing sheep while the lower flat area is regularly mown. Seats and tables are placed at strategic spots on the track system.
