- Description
The one-hour guided walks take participants along Russell Street and down Heretaunga Street to the Hawke's Bay Opera House.
This area is full of the fascinating architectural styles that either survived or emerged from the 1931 Hawke’s Bay earthquake and includes Spanish Mission (e.g. Hawke's Bay Opera House), Art Deco (e.g. Dominion Restaurant) and Stripped Classical (e.g. Public Trust building). The walk also highlights the elements of Hastings’ Landmarks philosophy – enhanced building facades, colourful flower baskets and exciting pieces of public art from well-known local artists.
Guides are available for walks every Saturday at 11am, and every Thursday at 2pm over summer, and bookings can be made through the Hastings i-SITE Visitor Information Centre, phone 06 873 5526.$10 per person, for a one-hour guided tour.
