Tucker Hill – Old Coach Road – Alexandra Clock Circuit

- Start this walk from the War Memorial monument in the centre of Alexandra.

Walk North along SH 85 (Tarbert St), turn right into Walton Street and reach the walkway that traverses the west bank of the Manuherikia River and runs past the Shaky Bridge to the old rail bridge. Follow the Rail Trail through Tucker Hill for 2km, then turn right at the second level crossing off Tucker Hill Road. Follow this to the Manorburn fiord. 50m before the fiord turn right onto Old Coach Road, an old wagon trail. Follow this for 3km going south to where it meets Little Valley Road. Head back towards Alexandra for 2km. Past the lookout the road takes a 360-degree bend at an old concrete reservoir. Walk from here south to the Alexandra clock. The descent to the clock is on a steep rocky track, then down to the Shaky Bridge which is crossed back to ‘Linger and Die’ (an old aborted deep lead mining venture).
2-3 hour circular trip.
