Herbert Village, gardens, forest walks and Historic Waianakarua Mill

- This tour takes 2.5 hours by Car/Bus and encompasses a 30 minute-two hour long forest walk. Times will vary depending on fitness levels and age of walkers. Starting from the Moeraki Boulders, drive north to historic Waianakarua Mill House and visit the stone bridge. Just 1km north is the turn off to Herbert Forest where you can enjoy a sign posted forest walk before driving north again to tranquil Herbert village with its curio store, gardens and churches. From Herbert there are three options – either head south on SH 1 to Palmerston/Dunedin OR return to Oamaru via Kakanui’s scenic drive OR head north via SH 1 to Oamaru/Christchurch.
