North West Circuit Stewart Island/Rakiura

Location

Stewart Island/Rakiura is a 20 minute flight from Invercargill or an hour by ferry from Bluff.

The island’s only settlement, in Halfmoon Bay, has a general store, postal agency, Department of Conservation Visitor Centre and a range of accommodation options. There is no bank or ATM.

Description

Rakiura's North West and South Circuit tracks are suitable for fit, well equipped and experienced trampers. Mud is widespread and often deep and thick on the tracks, regardless of the season.
