- Shallow Bay is located on the Kepler track and can be accessed from the Te Anau township via the Control Gates to Rainbow Reach track. This track joins the Kepler Track at Rainbow Reach where you can walk on to Shallow Bay for a full day return tramp.

Walkers can experience a section of the Kepler Track by walking from Rainbow Reach to Shallow Bay.
The track goes through mountain beech forest and across a kettle bog to the shores of Lake Manapouri. The Moturau and Shallow Bay Huts sited near the lake shore, offer shelter and toilet facilities before the return journey.
