Wairaurahiri to Waitutu track - South Coast track
- Location
This part of the South Coast track follows on from the Bluecliffs to Wairaurahiri via Port Craig easy tramp and leads on to the more challenging Waitutu to Big River Route.
You can combine this with the Hump Ridge track for a round trip. You can also get to the South Coast Track via the Teal Bay Route.
- Description
Cross the Wairaurahiri River over the suspension bridge next to the hut. A sign marks the boundary between Rowallan māori land and Waitutu Incorporation land.
Please stay on the track and refrain from hunting on this land, which extends to the Waitutu River. There is a walkwire over the Crombie Stream and a suspension bridge over the Angus Burn. The Waitutu River is crossed by suspension bridge, and the Waitutu Hut is 200 metres upstream on the true right bank.
It is possible to travel from the Waitutu Hut to Big River or to Prices Harbour along the coast.
Please note that track times can vary greatly depending on the state of the tide and the fitness of tramping groups. Track times are given as a guide only.
