Gisborne Riverbank Walkway
- Location
- This city walk is located at the confluence of the Waimata, Taruheru, and Turanganui Rivers. There are several entry points along Reads Quay and the entire length is about 1km.
- Description
Grade is flat on a well-formed pathway. The walkway is 1km and can be walked in either direction. The beach is flat with hard sand at the water’s edge.
It is also wheelchair accessible and is lit up at night.
Walking downstream from the centre of the city along the riverbanks will lead you to Captain Cook’s statue at the mouth of the Turanganui River at Waikanae Beach. A walk back to the city up Grey Street from Waikanae can complete the circuit. You can continue walking, or jogging, along the sand for several kilometres passing Midway Beach towards the mouth of the Waipaoa River.
