Pooples My Pooples Come Back!

Trudy Tendon lies splayed on the pavement. Her wails of distress over a tattered talon are suddenly interrupted by a shrill, appreciative whistle from a nearby building site and she realises her miniskirt has ridden up to reveal bare buttocks and a lacy G-string.

An overweight Roxie Ramble nods at the aforementioned skimpy strip of lingerie and confesses to Ani Ambler “I used to own one of those. I put it on two months ago and haven’t found it since.”

Ani’s guffaws are drowned by a shriek from Trudy as she staggers to her feet: “Pooples, my Pooples! Come Back!”

Roxie’s twins squeal and kick their legs in excitement from their buggy as Pooples the Chihuahua squirms his way out of Trudy’s handbag to disappear among the ankles and cankles of a crowd of shoppers.

Trudy speedily abandons her skyscraper stilettos and leads the charge in hot pursuit of her beloved pet-accessory. The Wonder Walkers – feeling responsible for her demise – follow suit, their walk quickly morphing into a jog.

Meanwhile, fuelled by freedom, Pooples sets a cracking pace, wending his way around the streets. But the cutsie canine is no match for Super Susie Strider who whips Pooples’ legs out from under him and tackles him all the way to the ground. Within seconds Trudy Tendon – minus stilettos – is on the scene to deliver a stern message to her dog “Who’s Mummy’s naughty, naughty little poochy then?”

As the remaining Wonder Walkers arrive on the scene Roxie declares they may as well end their outing with a drink and muffin seeing they’ve stopped – how convenient – outside the Step Up & Sit Down café.

Susie can’t resist informing Roxie that a muffin after a walk is simply not a great idea. “You should have protein not carbs after exercise,” she sniffs.
“Yes, I know, I know,” Roxie retorts. “I’m carrying a few extra pounds. I did head off to join Jenny Craig once though, you know. Problem is I met Sara Lee on the way.”

Amid much laughter, the Wonder Walkers settle down to enjoy their moccachinos and flat-whites. Trudy – with chai latte – joins them with Pooples safely ensconced once again in her designer handbag.

Will that be the last the group sees of Trudy Tendon?
