Courthouse Flat - Billies Knob

Location

Park at Courthouse Flat which is 15 minutes' drive past the start of the Wangapeka Track and 4km beyond the Rolling River Junction. The historic flat is a DOC campsite and a good campsite for day walks.

Leave the Courthouse Flat campsite and turn left after the bridge. Just beyond this turnoff is a viewpoint for you to check your destination.

Description

From Courthouse Flat follow the marked Mt Owen track to the clearing above the Staircase, and then continue straight ahead through low scrub, tussock and bare rock to the summit at 1648m. The climb is 1300m over 10km. Topo M28.

If you walk 10 min downhill beyond the saddle there is a rocky outcrop with panoramic views into Ghost Valley.

Return the way you came, but turn left at the turnoff you passed going up. This goes down to the Blue Creek track.
