Railway Reserve

Location
Start the walk from the Stoke Library on Putaitai Street.
Description

The Railway Reserve runs from Saxtons Road in Stoke through to Quarantine Road by the World of Wearable Arts but also connects with many other off-road cycleways.

The Railway Reserve is an excellent place for a family walk or a bike ride – there are no cars to worry about, just a long grassy stretch with sealed footpath where the train used to go when Nelson had a railway, from 1876 to 1955. Interpretation panels on the reserve will tell you more about the railway history.

Stoke also has two heritage sites, and a walk between them gives you the opportunity to experience two parks, a stretch of the Railway Reserve and some recent sculpture. Finish your day out with a swim at the Nayland Pool.
