Lions Playground and Tahunanui Beach

Location
Start from the Tahunanui Reserve car park by the Lions Playground.
Description

This is an easy walk over sand. Check the tide charts when planning this walk. The beach is great for swimming, you can sit and watch the ships entering and leaving the port and in the evening the sunsets are very impressive.

Cross the playground and head to the left on Tahunanui Beach. Turn left when the main beach ends and head down the Back Beach to the point where the sand hills end at the entrance to a small inlet. Wander through the trees towards the carpark with a choice of different tracks to follow – all of which lead out onto the reserve road.

Once out from under the pine trees follow the road past the skating rink and fun park. Where the road forks take the left side and walk past Natureland and through the walkway past the cafe. Then follow the road back to the carpark and playground.
