Paremata Flats Reserve
- Location
- Drive along State Highway 6 north of Nelson City and turn left into Cable Bay Road. Turn right from Cable Bay Road into Maori Pa Road which leads to Delaware Bay. Continue driving along Maori Pa Road to the sign for the Paremata Reserve and parking area. This is where the walk starts.
- Description
The Paremata Reserve was established in 1998 by the Nelson City Council and DOC. It protects the remaining forest area with its large kahikatea and kowhai trees.
Watch for electric fences on this walk; just down the track on the left is a stile leading to an excellent swimming spot. Along the walk there are several stiles that give you access to the river. From the estuary you can see Pepin Island, Cable Bay to the left and on the right Bishop’s Peninsula and directly behind you Delaware Bay.
