Whithells Walk (Lagoon Loop)

Location

Park at Kaiteriteri Beach and walk down Inlet Road, through part of the camping ground to the very back of the camp. Behind the last ablution block you will see a sign showing where to go.
Turn left and start along the track.

Description

It is the beauty of Kaiteriteri’s golden sand beach that attracts large numbers of visitors to the settlement, but there are many small trails of discovery that can add to the Kaiteriteri
experience.

Withells walk is one. It is easy going and suitable for the whole family – however dogs are not allowed.

This walk takes you around the perimeter of the Kaiteriteri saltwater lagoon, which partly fills with water at high tide. After a small distance you will arrive at a junction. Here there are a couple of seats to sit and admire the view while you decide
whether to take the Withells loop track which heads away from the lagoon and takes an extra 20 – 30 minutes to walk.

Continuing along the estuary edge is easy-going through peaceful bush and wetland plants. There is often interesting bird life to watch and at various times of the tide, the lagoon has an abundance of busy crabs and small fish.

At the head of the estuary, the walk will connect to Martin Farm Road, and access to Bethany Park – a popular camping and conference centre.Turning left will take you along Martin Farm Road and back to Kaiteriteri Beach where you may be in the
mood for a refreshing dip to end this easy-going adventure.
