Six Mile Creek
- Location
From the West Coast or Nelson: follow State Highway 6 towards Murchison. In Murchison turn at the Hampden Hotel and Supermarket, signposted Matakitaki Valley Road and Six Mile walkway. The road is sealed the whole way.
Start from the restored generator shed of what is believed to be one of New Zealand's oldest hydro power stations.
- Description
The walk crosses grassland before a short climb to the start of the beautiful forest. The loop walk follows the abandoned water races, and there is a short detour to the weir. You may see robins and fantails.
The walkway is 45 minutes to 1 hour easy walking.
There are two ‘long-drop’ toilets behind the Power house (no paper).The walkway crosses some private land, so please respect their property and keep to the walkway. Mountain bikes are not permitted. Information panels are on the back of the map panel near the entrance gate.
