Description

Totaranui Walk
A 2.5 hour leisurely walk, one way, and ride the water taxi back to the lodge. Traverse the vast Awaroa tidal inlet, and then through beech, rimu and matai forest, descend to Totaranui past giant rata trees in their cliff top habitats. At Totaranui's National Park Headquarters there is an informative and ecological display.

Sky Track Walk
A 40 minute circular walk. A perfect introduction to the environment – great for a run! On this 100 metre scenic climb above the inlet you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the coastline.

Wetland Walk
A 30 minute easy walk around the Awaroa wetland through native bush. The Awaroa wetland is currently undergoing enhancement to return the habitat to its pre-European state.

Tonga Arches Walk
Explore southward past Tonga quarry where granite was cut and used to build parts of many notable buildings. Further along the coastline you will come to the Tonga Arches, naturally created forms, sculpted by the elements.

Awaroa Inlet Walk
An open, peaceful space, the inlet exhibits prolific bird life, varied landforms and some early pakeha history. Awaroa's wetlands, tidal lagoon and beach provide habitats for oyster catchers, herons, stilts, terns, shags, kingfishers, native pigeons, tui, pukeko, morepork, bellbirds and fern birds.
