Nga Tapuwae -o-Toi Walkways

- Located between Whakatane and Ohope Beach, the best starting point is at the bottom of Mokorua Gorge.

16 km round trip – 7 hours completion
This walkway captures the essence of the Whakatane district. Translated as ‘the footprints of Toi' the 16 kilometres of walkway on the outskirts of Whakatane is accessible to most people, regardless of fitness, because it can be walked in sections or as one round trip. It includes pa sites of major historic significance three major scenic reserves, Kohi Point Scenic Reserve, Ohope Scenic reserve, Mokorua Scenic Reserve.
There are information boards placed in locations which tell much of the district’s natural historic heritage.
The walkway crosses Kohi Point Scenic Reserve, Ohope Beach, travels through the Ohope Scenic Reserve pohutukawa forest, across remnants of native forest to the regenerating flora of Mokorua Bush Scenic Reserve.- Duration
