Moraine Walk
- Location
This walk starts near Rotoiti Lodge, Lodge Road, Lake Rotoiti.
From Nelson City, follow State Highway 6 south and take the turn-off to the left sign-posted for Nelson Lakes after passing through Wakefield. This road reaches a T-junction with State Highway 63 where you turn right to reach the village of St Arnaud and Lake Rotoiti.
- Description
This walk winds around the base of Black Hill through manuka and kanuka, passing ‘kettle ponds’ created by glaciers. It starts near Rotoiti Lodge.
The Rotoiti Nature Recovery Project aims to restore approximately 5000 hectares of beech forest on the shores of Lake Rotoiti, in Nelson Lakes National Park. This is being achieved through an extensive predator trapping programme and the area is managed as a "mainland island".
