Dellside by Bush
- Location
- The walk starts on Lodestone Road, just past Cresswell Place.
- Description
This is a pleasant short walk which captures some of the best views on offer around Richmond and the Waimea Plains. There is some hill climbing to do, but it’s not too exhausting, so take your family and your dog for a breath of fresh air on the lower slopes of the Richmond Ranges. This is a good ‘get fit’ walk.
The walk starts on Lodestone Road, just past Cresswell Place. At the entrance to the track near the sign board, take the right hand side which dips down into the bush. Following the track along, you’ll pass through tranquil bush with its world of insects and birds. Watch out for muddy and damp bits after heavy rain.
Through the bush, the track climbs the hill and it’s fairly steep going. Along the way you’ll get glimpses across the foothills of Richmond,to Haulashore Island and Nelson beyond.
As you arrive at the top of the spur, the bush gives way to an expanse of grass. You’ll find a platform where you can rest up and listen to the hum of civilisation below. The views are panoramic looking out across the land and waterways of Tasman and Nelson.
Back on the track, continue down to Valhalla Drive. Here you can enjoy looking at some of the most upmarket homes in Richmond as well as some of the attractive street frontages which reinforce the area’s reputation as a home for avid gardeners.
Head down Valhalla Drive and just past the gates, turn right into Kilhilla Road and continue along to the track at the end of the road.
