Cape Farewell
- Location
- From Takaka, follow State Highway 60 north to Farewell Spit. From Wharariki Road, turn right before the cattle-stop and follow the farm road past a woolshed to the parking area. A short walk uphill takes you to Cape Farewell.
- Description
Farewell Spit, at the tip of the South Island, is New Zealand’s longest sand spit.
You can take guided nature tours of this internationally-renowned bird sanctuary or explore Puponga Farm Park. The area's attractions include a historic lighthouse, pa sites, the seals and striking landforms of Wharakiki Beach and a cliff top viewing platform.
Stay away from the cliff edge. Please leave the farm gates as you find them.
