Location
From Takaka, follow State Highway 60 north to Farewell Spit. From Wharariki Road, turn right before the cattle-stop and follow the farm road past a woolshed to the parking area. A short walk uphill takes you to Cape Farewell.
Description

Farewell Spit, at the tip of the South Island, is New Zealand’s longest sand spit.

You can take guided nature tours of this internationally-renowned bird sanctuary or explore Puponga Farm Park. The area's attractions include a historic lighthouse, pa sites, the seals and striking landforms of Wharakiki Beach and a cliff top viewing platform.

Stay away from the cliff edge. Please leave the farm gates as you find them.
