Weka Pass Walkway

Location

Weka Pass Historic Reserve is about one hour drive from Christchurch, off state highway 7 towards Culverden.

There are two entry points to the walkway – The Star and Garter Hotel on SH7 (parking available at hotel), or from Waikari township (Princess Street).

Description

The walkway crosses private farmland, and is closed during lambing 1 August to 1 October.

The walkway follows a disused railway line for about 800 metres and then leads up a hillside through farmed paddocks to an historic reserve which contains a series of Maori rock drawings (believed to be between 500 and 1000 years old). The route offers panoramic views over the limestone countryside and beyond.

There are toilets, cold water and rubbish bins at the reserve. About 5kms from the reserve is a Dairy and Service Station.
