Purple Peak Track - Akaroa

This walk starts from the Rue Balguerie, Akaroa – turning off at the Mt Vernon Lodge sign.
Park in the Rue Balguerie.
- Description
The Mt Vernon Road comes to a fork, from here walk up the very steep gravel road that is signposted (4-wheel drive only). Walk past the farm following the vehicle track to the ridge line. From the ridge crest saddle you can climb uphill to the 806 m Stony Bay Peak to get panoramic views of Otanerito Bay, Akaroa Harbour and Flea Bay. Watch for gorse.
Purple Peak is a great bluff of purple coloured rock rich in colour.
4-6 hrs return to Stony Bay Peak.
