Sumner Seaside Stroll
- Location
- Car parks available on the Esplanade beside Sumner beach.
- Description
Walk along the promenade and return to the car park.
Cave Rock can be explored at low tide by walking across Sumner beach to the seaward side of Cave Rock. Walking through this tidal cave takes you on the other beach near the foot of a walking ramp onto the promenade. There is a plaque on the tower in memory of pilot Joseph Day who saved many lives between 1867 and 1880.
An easy walk takes you to Scarborough Park under the cliffs. There is a children’s playground and paddling pool as well as toilets and trees at the park. No dogs allowed in this park.
Return the same way or take Nayland Street or Wiggins Street past seaside homes and Sumner shops. Cross Main Street at the pedestrian island back to the car park.
Dogs must be on a leash along the promenade.
