Amelia Rogers Reserve and Riverside Walk
- Location
- Car parking along Hulverstone Drive and Cedarwood Park.
- Description
The former home of Amelia Frances Rogers (Burwood Postmistress between 1891 and 1928) is marked by a plaque in a riverside reserve opposite Bathhurst Lane. From the reserve you can walk to the river through artificial marshland created during the dredging of Kerr’s Reach in 1995.
This circuit walk of the Avon River links Amelia Rogers Reserve and river jetty with the new pathways under the Anzac Drive bridge. There are seats along the walk and Cedarwood Park has a children’s playground.
Start from the seats beside Hulverstone Drive and follow the pathway to the new Anzac Drive Bridge. The paths go under the bridge continuing along the Wainoni Road bridge. Use the pedestrian safety islands to reach the opposite riverbank following the paths back under Anzac Drive bridge again.
There is an unpathed area across a grassed road reserve before you reach the Amelia Rogers Reserve. The gravel track leads to the reserve, seats and a river jetty. The pathway rejoins New Brighton Road and passes river steps at the Avondale Road bridge. To walk back to Hulverstone Drive turn left from here and left again and the path leads back.
