Scarborough Walk

Location
From Scarborough Park at the eastern end of Sumner Esplanade, walk steeply up Whitewash Head Road.
Description

At the end of the road steps continue up to the top of the 130-metre cliffs at Whitewash Head. Magnificent views from here sweep north from the Avon-Heathcote Estuary, across Pegasus Bay to the distant Kaikoura Range. Watch for spotted shags flying to and from their roosts on the cliffs, but take care near the edge.

Continue along the Whitewash Head – Scarborough Walk a short distance to a junction, and follow signs that lead to Nicholson Park. Descend through the children’s playground and continue along the Scarborough Walk. Take Flowers Track directly back down to Sumner.

Alternatively, to explore Whitewash Head further, continue past the Nicholson Park junction. Taylors Mistake Walkway follows the cliffs down to Taylors Mistake. Return the same way.

Toilets: Nicholson Park, Scarborough Park, Taylors Mistake, Scarborough Park.
