Bridle Path - Whakaraupo Circuit
- Location
- From the Bridle Path car park on the Summit Road, take the signposted Whakaraupo Track.
- Description
- A short walk from the Summit Road with outstanding views of Lyttelton Harbour and volcanic outcrops. 15 minutes from the carpark, pass the junction with the Stan Helms Track which zigzags steeply down to Harmans Road, Lyttelton. The Whakaraupo Track sidles through scrub and among rock outcrops on slopes directly above the Lyttelton port. The track emerges on to a spur at the Whakaraupo Lookout, a crag with expansive views of the harbour. Continue sidling above a steep gully which sweeps up from the sea at Cass Bay to the rocky faces of the Tors. Climb to the spur and join the Crater Rim Walkway, which takes you back to the Bridle Path.
